Episode 130: Santina Cawley (Part 2)

Last week, I told you about two-year-old Santina Cawley, a happy little red-haired Irish girl who lit up her family’s lives. I also told you about Santina’s tragic and brutal death and the intensive gardaí investigation that led to the arrest of Karen Harrington, the pregnant girlfriend of Santina’s father, Michael Cawley.

In this episode, I’ll continue where I left off last week, jumping right into testimony given at Karen’s murder trial by gardaí, Karen’s friends and family, and the defendant herself. I’ll also tell you about the aftermath of the trial and how Santina’s murder has affected everyone who loved her.

This is part two of the heartbreaking story of Santina Cawley.

Episode 129: Santina Cawley (Part 1)

In the early morning hours of July 5, 2019, Michael Cawley left his two-year-old daughter, Santina, with his girlfriend, Karen Harrington, at her apartment in Cork, Ireland. Michael and Karen had argued that morning, but Michael had no reason not to trust the woman he knew to be excellent with children. Michael couldn’t have predicted that he would return two hours later to find Santina naked under a blanket on the floor, bruised, bloody, and unresponsive.

This is the story of a happy baby with red hair, bright blue eyes, and a big, contagious smile who brought joy into the lives of everyone who knew her. It’s also the story of a woman whose unthinkably horrific actions baffled an entire country, leaving everyone with the same unanswerable question: Why?

This is part one of the heartbreaking story of Santina Cawley.

Episode 128: Divina and Thaddeus Sran

On July 15, 2020, Briseida and Sukhjinder Sran reported their two-year-old special needs son, Thaddeus, missing from the family’s new home in Madera, California. When the parents stopped cooperating with the police early in the investigation, Thaddeus’s parents came under suspicion, which only intensified after the public learned that the couple had another child, four-month-old Divina, who died five years earlier. After Thaddeus’s charred remains were found miles from home, Briseida and Sukhjinder were arrested.

This is the story of two beautiful siblings who never had the chance to meet during their time on earth. It’s also the story of a community that came together first to find a missing little boy, then to ensure he would never be forgotten.

This is the tragic story of Divina and Thaddeus Sran.

Groomed to Die: The Kendzia Children | Part 7: The Recordings

I’ve spent weeks telling you about the countless alleged crimes committed by Susan Lee, formerly known as Susan Stevenson, Susan Cook, and Susan Kendzia. I’ve told you about her charges for the murders of her two adopted infant sons, Michael and Kevin, and her subsequent trial; the chronic, inexplicable illnesses suffered by Susan’s daughter, Shain, throughout her first 28 years; and Susan’s alleged abuse of her own children, her step-sons, the children she babysat, and the third infant she was, incredibly, allowed to adopt after the first two died under suspicious circumstances.

In the final part of this miniseries, you’ll hear from Susan herself. In early 2022, thinking Susan was near death, her daughters began recording their conversations with her in case she decided to confess to her crimes while on her deathbed. As it slowly became clear that Susan wasn’t dying and her daughters began to suspect that her poor health and “dementia” were a ruse, they continued to record her ever-changing stories and surprising admissions.

This is Part 7: The Recordings.

Groomed to Die: The Kendzia Children | Part 6: House of Cards

Over the past five episodes, I’ve told you about the many acts of child abuse allegedly perpetrated by Susan Lee, including her murder charges for the deaths of her two adopted infant sons; twenty-eight years of medical abuse of her younger daughter; physical and mental cruelty toward her daughters and step-sons; and maltreatment of a number of children she babysat. I also told you a little about Susan’s alleged abuse of her third adopted child.

In this episode, I’ll tell you more about Susan’s treatment of her adopted daughter and what happened once DSS finally got involved. I’ll also tell you how Susan’s biological daughters, Christy and Shain, reunited after over a decade and began putting the pieces together, revealing the enormity of Susan’s decades-long reign of terror.

This is Part 6: House of Cards.

Re-Release | Episode 87: Judah Morgan (Part 1)

**This episode was originally released in November of 2021. I am re-releasing part 1 and part 2 of Judah’s story in honor of his father being sentenced this week to 70 years in prison for Judah’s murder.**

Little Judah Morgan spent almost the entirety of his four years in the loving, stable foster home of his second-cousin, Jenna Hullett, and her family. When Indiana DCS essentially forgot to terminate the rights of his biological parents, Judah was returned to the custody of his mother, Mary Yoder, and his father, Alan Morgan. Six months later, Judah was dead.

This is the story of a joyful, jubilant little boy with warm brown eyes, curly blond hair, and adorably pinchable cheeks who loved singing and dancing, learning, and especially spending time with the family who loved him. It’s also the story of yet another child protection agency yet again failing a child with fatal and undeniably preventable results.

In part 2, you’ll hear my conversation with Judah’s foster mom, Jenna, who is already fighting to change laws to protect other kids like the little boy she loved like her own.

This is part 1 of the infuriating story of Judah Morgan.
